Workers Memorial: It mean's more than just going to Church

Friday, April 27, 2018

On Tuesday, May 1st, Suffolk AME will be taking part in the 8th Annual Workers Memorial Mass in Bay Shore, which pays homage to those who died in workplace accidents and celebrates the enactment of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). I can't stress to you the importance of OSHA and how America's Unions celebrate its anniversary on Workers Memorial Day.

Our union will once again be participating in this event to pay homage to the scores of Long Island workers who went to work and never came home due to an avoidable, tragic workplace accident. As you can see from the list below, many of those who died worked outdoors, but members of our union must be aware that tragedy can happen at any moment in our offices. When you come out to this event, we organize and reaffirm the fact that we are all vulnerable. Below I have provided some details on the Mass as well as the list of workers on Long Island who died on the job.  We hope to see everyone on May 1st, and please bring a plastic bag with food items for their Soup Kitchen.
Continue to work hard, make safety a daily habit and Wear Red every Friday as we inch closer to a fair and equitable contract. Suffolk County Works, Because We Do!
